Despite the significant amount of research carried out in the field of wood-plastic compounds, these materials have not yet reached their full commercial and technical potential. A new EU project called BioStruct aims to overcome the obstacles to market success by developing the next material generation, enhanced wood-plastic composites (eWPCs) for use in high-value technical applications. With a total budget of €10 million, BioStruct is part funded by the European Commission and involves 20 partners from 10 European countries.
